Moses said to the people:
“You are a people consecrated to the Lord your God:
you chose him to be his people,
its particular domain among all the peoples of the earth.
If the Lord is attached to you, if He chose you,
it’s not that you are the most numerous of all peoples,
because you are the smallest of all.
It’s out of love for you,
and to keep the oath to your fathers,
that the Lord brought you out by the strength of his hand,
and bought you out of the bondage house
and from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
So you will know that it is the Lord your God who is God,
the true God who keeps his Covenant and his faithfulness
for a thousand generations
to those who love him and keep his commandments.
But he responds to his adversaries by making them perish,
and his response is immediate.
So you will keep the command, the decrees and the ordinances
that I am instructing you to put into practice today. ”
Reading of the first letter of Saint John
(1 Jn 4, 7-16)
Beloved, let’s love one another, since love comes from God. He who loves was born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love has not known God, because God is love.
This is how the love of God was manifested among us: God sent his only begotten Son into the world to live by him. This is what love is about: it was not we who loved God, but it was he who loved us, and he sent his Son as a sacrifice of forgiveness for our sins. Beloved, since God has loved us so much, we too must love one another. God, no one has ever seen him. But if we love one another, God abides in us, and in us his love reaches perfection.
Here is how we recognize that we abide in him and he in us:
he gave us part of his Spirit. As for us, we have seen and we attest that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Whoever proclaims that Jesus is the Son of God,
God dwells in him, and he in God. And we, we recognized the love that God has for us, and we believed it. God is love: who dwells in love dwells in God,
and God dwells in him.
