Reading of the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy (2 Tm 2, 8-15)

Beloved, remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the descendant of David: this is my Gospel. It is for him that I endure suffering, until I am chained like a criminal. But we do not chain the word of God! That’s why I support everything for those whom God has chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Here is a word worthy of faith: If we died with him, with him we will live.
If we endure the test, with him we will reign. If we reject him, he too will reject us. If we lack faith, he stays true to his word, because he cannot reject himself. This is what you have to remember, by declaring solemnly before God that quarrels over words must be banished: they are useless, if not to disturb those who listen to them.
You yourself, try to present yourself before God as someone who has proven himself, a worker who doesn’t have to be ashamed of what he’s done and who goes straight for the word of truth.
Word of the Lord: We give thanks to God!
